Our Training Philosophy
I believe that behind every "difficult" behavior is a dog trying to communicate and a human trying their best to listen. I don't use a one size fits all system because your dog isn't a project to be completed as they are a family member to be understood.
The journey we take together is a true partnership. You are the expert on your dog, and I am the expert on the behavior. By joining forces, we create a Bespoke Support Roadmap that respects your dog’s pace and your lifestyle. We move as fast as your dog feels comfortable, ensuring that every bit of progress we make is built on a foundation of trust rather than fear.
I don’t focus on robotic obedience. Instead, I look at the emotional wellness of your dog. When a dog feels safe, understood, and supported, the "bad" behaviors often begin to soften on their own. My goal is to give you the tools to be the person your dog needs you to be.

About Mark – Your Partner in Change
Mark’s journey started in 2010 in Cornwall, guiding rescue dogs through agility sessions. Even then, he realized it was never really about the obstacles. It was about unlocking joy, building trust, and giving dogs a sense of control over their world. Today, that same belief is the heartbeat of Focused Paws.
A Foundation of Calm & Precision
With over 30 years of military service, Mark brings a unique perspective to behavioral work. He offers a steady, calm presence and a structured way of thinking that helps owners feel at ease during stressful moments. He deeply understands the power of predictability and how important emotional regulation is for both the dog and the human at the other end of the lead.
Awareness in Every Movement
As a qualified yoga teacher, Mark’s approach is infused with a quiet strength. While you won't be doing "downward dog," his deep understanding of breath, movement, and nervous system responses is woven into every session. This is especially vital when working with anxious or reactive dogs, where staying calm and grounded is half the battle.
Clinical Expertise & Rescue Roots
After four years volunteering at a busy rescue center, Mark learned the delicate art of supporting shut-down and traumatized dogs. This hands-on experience taught him how to decode subtle body language and rebuild trust without ever using pressure.
To back this experience with the highest level of science, Mark is currently completing his Level 6 Clinical Animal Behaviour (Canine) qualification with the Canine Behaviour College. This transition into clinical work ensures that your Bespoke Support Roadmap is rooted in the very latest evidence-based behavioral science.
Our Shared Philosophy
At Focused Paws, we support dogs from all walks of life: international rescues, local adoptees, and sensitive souls who find the world a bit too loud. Mark’s sessions blend purposeful communication with real-world clarity. You won’t find harsh commands or power struggles here. Instead, you will find a compassionate, expert path toward a more resilient and responsive companion.
